AttractingHummingbirds in

Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red. If you want hummingbirds to join the faeries in your garden, plant lots of flowers that have red blooms. Provide some hiding places in your yard, like bushes and trees. Most importantly, provide some food for the hummingbirds. It is best if you plan on feeding the hummers in a shady area.

You can buy a red commercial feeder and buy red food that just mixes with water. This food color is safe and the hummers like it a lot, but you can make your hummingbird food yourself and save some money...just don't add food coloring, because the kind that isn't a part of natural flavoring can hurt hummingbirds. The feeder is already red and will attract the little birds. Here is the recipe for homemade hummingbird food:

Hummingbird Food

Ingredients: one cup sugar, to four cups water

Heat the water on the stove until it is boiling. Add the sugar to the water and stir. Boil at least a minute or until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove the pan from the stove and let the mixture cool. When the nectar is room temperature, fill your clean hummingbird feeder and store any leftover nectar in a covered container in the refridgerator. It will keep for about a week.

Keep your feeder clean by throughly rinsing with hot water between fillups. If it becomes too dirty to clean just with rinsing, use vinegar and a bottle brush, then rinse completely with clean hot water.
